Match the following The correct answer is

Options

  1. A(A) - (II), (B) - (IV), (C) - (I), (D) - (III)
  2. B(A) - (IV), (B) - (II), (C) - (I), (D) - (III)
  3. C(A) - (III), (B) - (II), (C) - (IV), (D) - (I)
  4. D(A) - (II), (B) - (III), (C) - (IV), (D) - (I)

Correct answer

A. (A) - (II), (B) - (IV), (C) - (I), (D) - (III)

Step-by-step solution

Electron gain enthalpy generally becomes more negative across a period as we move from left to right. Within a group, electron gain enthalpy becomes less negative down a group. When we add an electron to ' F ' atom, 2 p orbital leads to greater repulsion than adding an electron to larger 3 p orbital like chlorine, due to larger size of chlorine electron can accommodate easily so its value will be more negative as compare to fluorine. Same reason follow for oxygen and sulphur.
