Which of the following theory gives the latest explanation for the closure of stomata?

Options

  1. AABA theory
  2. BMunch theory
  3. CStarch glucose theory
  4. DActive K+\mathrm{K}^{+}transport theory

Correct answer

D. Active K+\mathrm{K}^{+}transport theory

Step-by-step solution

As per 'Active K+\mathrm{K}^{+}transport mechanism' accumulation of K+\mathrm{K}^{+}ions occurs in the guard cell during the day in response to light. It increases the turgidity of guard cells, consequently stomata open. During night, ions move out of the guard cells into surrounding epidermal cells consequently guard cells become flaccid and stomata close.
