Sulphuric acid is manufactured by the Contact Process which involves three steps: (i) burning of sulphur or sulphide ores in air to generate SO 2 . (ii) conversion of SO 2   to   SO 3   by the reaction with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst ( V 2 O 5   ) , and (iii) absorption of SO 3 in H 2 SO 4 to give Oleum ( H 2 S 2 O 7 ) .
