A rise in the pCO 2 or fall in pH(High H + ion concentration) decreases oxygen affinity of haemoglobin, raising the P 50 value. This is called Bohr effect. Decrease in pH increases acidity of the blood that results in dissociation of oxygen and Hb which occurs in the body tissues.
