Heterocysts in Nostoc

Heterocysts in Nostoc are large clear cells without chlorophyll. They have enzyme nitrogenase which helps in nitrogen fixation. In Nostoc , they are not situated terminally (at the ends) but are interspersed between the photosynthetic cells. Since they are clear, they are also called hyaline cells.
