Which process results in decrease of nitrogen content in soil?

Options

  1. AAmmonification
  2. BBiological nitrogen fixation
  3. CDenitrification
  4. DNitrification

Correct answer

C. Denitrification

Step-by-step solution

The bacteria which carry out denitrification are called denitrifying bacteria, like Thiobacillus denitrificans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Micrococcus denitrificans also occur in the soil which converts the nitrate and ammonia into atmospheric free elemental nitrogen. The process in which molecular nitrogen is released back into the atmosphere by reduction of nitrate present in the soil is called denitrification.
