Hinsberg's reagent is benzene sulphonyl chloride (C_6H_5SO_2Cl). It is used to distinguish between primary, secondary, and tertiary amines. Primary amines react with it to form a precipitate that is soluble in alkali. Secondary amines react to form a precipitate that is insoluble in alkali. Tertiary amines do not react with it.
