Crude sodium chloride obtained by crystallisation of brine solution contains CaSO ₄ , Na ₂ SO ₄, CaCl ₂, MgCl ₂ as impuirities. CaCl ₂ and MgCl ₂ are deliquescent, i.e. absorb moisture from atmosphere and give wet appearance to the salt. Crude salt is dissolved in water and insoluble impurities are removed by filtration. Hence, MgSO ₄ is not present in crude sodium chloride.
