Which of the following is the connecting link between glycolysis and Krebs cycle?

Options

  1. AAcetyl Co-A
  2. BOxalosuccinic acid
  3. CPyruvic acid
  4. DCitric acid

Correct answer

A. Acetyl Co-A

Step-by-step solution

Glycolysis is the first step of sepiration in which glucose is broken down to pyrurate. During glycolysis 1 molecule of glucose is converted to 2 molecules of pyruvic acid in the cytoplasm. These two molecules of pyruvic acid is then converted to acetyl CoA by decarboxylation. This acetyl CoA is the connecting link between glycolysis and Krebs' cycle and functions as substrate entrant for Krebs' cycle. Acetyl CoA thus formed participates in Krebs' cycle and combines with oxaloacetic acid to form citrate.
