Trophe = nourishment. Most of the tropic hormones are secreted by anterior lobe of pituitary. Gonadotropins or gonadotropic hormones are those which stimulate the gonads (testes and ovaries), FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) stimulates growth of ovarian follicles and the secretion of oestrogens in the female and spermatogenesis (formation of sperms) in the male .
