What makes up the brain stem?

The thalamus is a major coordinating center for sensory and motor signaling.The limbic system, along with the hypothalamus, is involved in the regulation of sexual behavior, expression of emotional reactions, and motivation.The amygdala, along with other structures of the limbic system, is involved in the expression of emotional reactions. The hippocampus, along with other structures of the limbic system, is involved in processing of memory and spatial navigation. The brain stem forms the connections between the brain and spinal cord. Three major regions make up the brain stem; mid brain, pons and medulla oblongata .A reflex action is an involuntary response to a peripheral nervous stimulation, which occurs without conscious effort or thought.The knee jerk reflex is an example of an involuntary response, as it occurs without conscious effort or thought.
