If A and B are two events such that P(A) = (1)/(3), P(B) = (1)/(5)...

If AA and BB are two events such that P(A)=13,P(B)=15P\left(A\right) = \dfrac{1}{3}, P\left(B\right) = \dfrac{1}{5} and P(A∪B)=12P\left(A \cup B\right) = \dfrac{1}{2}, then P(AB′)+P(BA′)P\left(A {B}^{'}\right) + P\left(B {A}^{'}\right) is equal toIf A and B are two events such that P(A) = (1)/(3), P(B) = (1)/(5) and P(A B) = (1)/(2) , then P(A B ^ ' ) + P(B A ^ '

Options

  1. A34\dfrac{3}{4}
  2. B58\dfrac{5}{8}
  3. C54\dfrac{5}{4}
  4. D78\dfrac{7}{8}

Correct answer

B. 58\dfrac{5}{8}

Step-by-step solution

Given,

P(A)=13,P(B)=15P\left(A\right) = \dfrac{1}{3}, P\left(B\right) = \dfrac{1}{5} and P(A∪B)=12P\left(A \cup B\right) = \dfrac{1}{2}

We know that,

P(A∪B)=P(A)+P(B)−P(A∩B)P\left(A \cup B\right) = P\left(A\right) + P\left(B\right) - P\left(A \cap B\right)

⇒P(A∩B)=13+15−12=130⇒ P\left(A \cap B\right) = \dfrac{1}{3} + \dfrac{1}{5} - \dfrac{1}{2} = \dfrac{1}{30}

Now P(A∩B′)=Only A=13−130=930P\left(A \cap {B}^{'}\right) = \text{Only A} = \dfrac{1}{3} - \dfrac{1}{30} = \dfrac{9}{30}

And P(B∩A′)=Only B=15−130=530P\left(B \cap {A}^{'}\right) = \text{Only B} = \dfrac{1}{5} - \dfrac{1}{30} = \dfrac{5}{30}

If A and B are two events such that P(A) = (1)/(3), P(B) = (1)/(5) and P(A B) = (1)/(2) , then P(A B ^ ' ) + P(B A ^ '

Now, P(A∣B′)+P(B∣A′)=P(A∩B′)P(B′)+P(B∩A′)P(A′)P\left(A ∣ {B}^{'}\right) + P\left(B ∣ {A}^{'}\right) = \dfrac{P\left(A \cap {B}^{'}\right)}{P\left({B}^{'}\right)} + \dfrac{P\left(B \cap {A}^{'}\right)}{P\left({A}^{'}\right)}

=93045+53023=58= \dfrac{\dfrac{9}{30}}{\dfrac{4}{5}} + \dfrac{\dfrac{5}{30}}{\dfrac{2}{3}} = \dfrac{5}{8}
