The undifferentiated, germ cells present on the inside wall of seminiferous tubules of testes are called spermatogonium (or sperm mother cells). Each spermatogonium is diploid and contains 46 chromosomes ( 44+ XY ). At sexual maturity, these cells divide several times by mitosis to produce a large number of spermatogonia, some of which serve as stem cells for spermatogenic lineage while other act as precursor of sperms and differentiate into primary sperma
