During a biological survey, a researcher discovers a new organism. To classify it properly, she examines its external and internal structure, cellular organization, developmental process, and ecological information. According to established biological principles, this comprehensive approach forms the basis of:
Options
- AArtificial classification systems
- BModern taxonomic studies
- CClassical taxonomy
- DNumerical taxonomy
Correct answer
B. Modern taxonomic studies
Step-by-step solution
According to the principles of taxonomy, the comprehensive approach that includes the study of external and internal structure, cellular organization, developmental process, and ecological information of organisms forms the basis of modern taxonomic studies.
Classical taxonomy primarily relied on morphological traits, whereas modern taxonomic studies incorporate a wider range of biological information to establish evolutionary relationships and accurate classification.
Answer: Modern taxonomic studies
