5 ~L of 1 M NaOH solution is mixed with 3 ~L of 0.5 M NaOH solution. Find out the molarity of the resultant solution:

Options

  1. A0.80 M
  2. B1.0 M
  3. C0.73 M
  4. D0.50 M

Correct answer

C. 0.73 M

Step-by-step solution

2.5 L 1 M Naoh with 3 L 0.5 M NaOH . Intially, Number of moles in 2.5 ~L , aligned 1 M NaOH & =2.5 1 & =2.5 moles aligned Number of moles in 3 ~L , 0.5 M NaOH =3 0.5=1.5 moles. Total number of moles in final mixture =2.5+1.5=4.0 moles . The total volume of solution =2.5+3=5.5 ~L aligned & Molarity of final solution = 4 5.5 & =0.728 M aligned
