In most of the mammals including humans, RBCs are biconcave and are enucleated. Due to lack of nucleus and cell organelles, they provide more space for oxygen carrying pigment - Haemoglobin. They respire anaerobically due to the absence of mitochondria and do not use up the oxygen they carry.
