Outbreeding: It refers to the mating of unrelated animals, it may be between individuals of the same breed but not having common ancestors for 4-6 generations. It helps in overcoming inbreeding depression. It is of two types:

Cross–breeding: Mating of animals belonging to different breeds is called cross-breeding. It involves interbreeding of superior males of a breed with superior females of another breed to produce hybrid animals.

Interspecific hybridization: The crossing of male and female animals of two different but related species is called interspecific hybridization. The progeny may have desirable features of both the parents.
