Polysome is formed by

Options

  1. Aa ribosome with several subunits.
  2. Bseveral ribosomes attached to a single mRNA.
  3. Cribosomes attached to each other in a linear arrangement.
  4. Dmany ribosomes attached to a strand of endoplasmic reticulum

Correct answer

B. several ribosomes attached to a single mRNA.

Step-by-step solution

It is a cluster of numerous ribosomes that are involved in protein synthesis. These ribosomes in a polysome are connected with single mRNA and translate the genetic information coded in the mRNA. Each ribosome has two subunits i.e.one smaller and one bigger unit. Once the translation is finished these subunits get separated from each other. In the next cycle, they again reassociate for the initiation of protein synthesis.
