What is the correct difference between the following diagrams? (I) (II)

Options

  1. AAbsence of mesophyll tissue in (II)
  2. BAbsence of cuticle in (I).
  3. CAbsence of sub-stomatal chamber in both types of the leaves in (I).
  4. DAbsence of palisade tissue in (II)

Correct answer

D. Absence of palisade tissue in (II)

Step-by-step solution

I is the cross section of dicot leaf while II is the cross section of monocot leaf. In dicot leaf, the mesophyll cells are differentiated into palisade cells which are closely placed and spongy cells which are loosely placed. In dicot leaf, stomata are present on the lower surface. Thus sub-stomatal chambers are present only on the lower surface. In monocot leaf, stomata are present on the upper as well as the lower surface. Thus sub-stomatal chambers are present only on both the surfaces.
