Allium cepa is onion. It shows cymose inflorescence with umbellate clusters. It consists of a number of short flower stalks which spread from a common point like umbrella. During unfavourable conditions, it forms a fleshy structure called bulb for storage of food in their scale leaves. It is placed in family Liliaceae in which colchicine Colchicum autumnale is also placed. In its flowers, the petals and sepals cant be differentiated. This whorl is called perianth and it is made of tepals.
