Which of the following is the intermediate compound linking glycolysis to the Krebs' cycle?
Options
- AMalic acid
- BAcetyl CoA
- CNADH
- DATP
Correct answer
B. Acetyl CoA
Step-by-step solution
During glycolysis pyruvic acid is produced from glucose and is oxidatively decarboxylated to form acetyl C o A . The oxidation of pyruvic acid occurs inside matrix of mitochondria and is called as link reaction. It results in production of 2 molecules of C O 2 and 2 molecules of N A D H 2 . This acetyl C o A is completely oxidised during Krebs' cycle. Thus acetyl C o A acts as the linker of glycolysis and Krebs' cycle.
