Question
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum __________.
Smooth endoplasmic reticulum __________.
C. is the major site for the synthesis of lipids
The endoplasmic reticulum is divided into two types based on the presence or absence of ribosomes on its surface: Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER) and Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER). RER has ribosomes attached to its surface and is actively involved in protein synthesis and secretion. SER lacks ribosomes and appears smooth. It is the major site for the synthesis of lipids. In animal cells, lipid-like steroidal hormones are also synthesized in the SER. Therefore, the smooth endoplasmic reticulum is the major site for the synthesis of lipids.
