A rod of length 2cm2cm makes an angle \dfrac{2π}{3}rad with the principal axis of a thin convex lens. The lens has a focal length of 10cm10cm and is placed at a distance of 403cm\dfrac{40}{3}cm from the object as shown in the figure. The height of the image is 30313cm\dfrac{30\sqrt{3}}{13}cm and the angle made by it with respect to the principal axis is α\alpha rad. The value of α is \dfrac{π}{n}rad, where nn is

A rod of length 2cm makes an angle (2π)/(3)rad with the principal axis of a thin convex lens. The lens has a focal

Correct answer

0

Step-by-step solution

In convex lens, when an object is placed in between the centre of curvature and focus, the real image is formed behind the centre of curvature. The size of the image is larger than that of the object.

Here, the angle made by inner side of rod with principal axis is π−2π3=π3rad\pi - \dfrac{2\pi}{3} = \dfrac{\pi}{3}rad.

A rod of length 2cm makes an angle (2π)/(3)rad with the principal axis of a thin convex lens. The lens has a focal

From figure, height of object is ho=2sin⁡60°=2×32=3cm{h}_{o} = 2\sin 60 ° = 2 \times \dfrac{\sqrt{3}}{2} = \sqrt{3}cm and given height of image hi=30313cm{h}_{i} = \dfrac{30\sqrt{3}}{13}cm

Size of object is u=403+1=433cmu = \dfrac{40}{3} + 1 = \dfrac{43}{3}cm

Now, using lens equation, 1v−1−u=1f\dfrac{1}{v} - \dfrac{1}{- u} = \dfrac{1}{f}

⇒v=fuf−u⇒ v = \dfrac{fu}{f - u}

Image distance, OA′=403×10433−10=40cmO{A}^{'} = \dfrac{\dfrac{40}{3} \times 10}{\dfrac{43}{3} - 10} = 40cm

And OB′=433×10433−10=43013cmO{B}^{'} = \dfrac{\dfrac{43}{3} \times 10}{\dfrac{43}{3} - 10} = \dfrac{430}{13}cm

∴A′B′=40−43013=9013cm∴ {A}^{'}{B}^{'} = 40 - \dfrac{430}{13} = \dfrac{90}{13}cm

∴tanα=30313×(9013)=13∴ tan\alpha = \dfrac{30\sqrt{3}}{13 \times \left(\dfrac{90}{13}\right)} = \dfrac{1}{\sqrt{3}}

⇒α=π6⇒ \alpha = \dfrac{\pi}{6}

∴n=6.00∴ n = 6 . 00
