Phospholipid synthesis does not occur in RER. It occurs inside the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER). A signal peptide is a short peptide present at the N-terminus of the newly synthesised proteins, that targets them to the ER and is then cleaved off. RER synthesises proteins, modification of proteins occurs in the Golgi apparatus by glycosylation.
