Aniline reacts with Lewis acid ( A l C l 3 ) to form anilinium complex. As in the toluene − CH 3 group is ring activating so toluene is most reactive among these for electrophilic substitution reaction. Chlorobenzene and benzamide do not give product in good yield for this reaction as -Cl and - C O N H 2 are deactivating groups.
