In electrolysis, the reaction occurs at the anode and cathode :- At anode :- 2 OH - → H 2 O   +   1 2 O 2   +   2 e - At cathode :- 2 H 2 O   +   2 e -   → 2 OH -   + H 2 Hence, the high purity dihydrogen is obtained by electrolysing warm aqueous barium hydroxide.
