To observe the effect of concentration on the conductivity of electrolytes of different nature were taken in two vessels and contains weak electrolyte (\mathrm{NH}_4 \mathrm{OH}) and contains strong electrolyte (\mathrm{NaCl}). In both containers, concentration of respective electrolyte was increased and conductivity observed
Options
- Ain conductivity increases, in conductivity decreases
- Bin conductivity decreases, while in conductivity increases
- Cin both and conductivity increase
- Din both and conductivity decreases.
Correct answer
D. in both and conductivity decreases.
Step-by-step solution
Solution which contains large number of ions compared to another solution of same concentration at the same temperature has more conductance and is said to be stronger electrolyte. The one which has relatively small number of ions is called weak electrolyte. If concentration of respective electrolyte was increased, the equivalent conductance decreased in each case, but rapid decrease in equivalent conductance is seen in weak electrolyte.
