Liquids AA and BB are at 30oC\text{30}{}^{o} \text{C} and 20oC\text{20}{}^{o} \text{C}, respectively. When mixed in equal masses, the temperature of the mixture is found to be 26oC\text{26}{}^{o} \text{C}, The specific heats of AA and BB are in the ratio of m:nm: n, where mm and nn are integers, then find minimum value of m+nm + n.

Correct answer

5

Step-by-step solution

At thermal equilibrium

heat rejected by one liquid = heat accepted by other liquid

msA(30–26)=msB(26–20){ms}_{A}\left(30 – 26\right) = {ms}_{B}\left(26 – 20\right)

⇒4sA=6sB⇒ 4{s}_{A} = 6{s}_{B}

∴sAsB=64=32∴ \dfrac{{s}_{A}}{{s}_{B}} = \dfrac{6}{4} = \dfrac{3}{2} =mn⇒m+n=3+2=5= \dfrac{m}{n} ⇒ m + n = 3 + 2 = 5
