The diagram shows stress versus strain curve for the materials AA and BB. From the curves, we can infer that The diagram shows stress versus strain curve for the materials A and B . From the curves, we can infer that

Options

  1. AAA is brittle but BB is ductile
  2. BAA is ductile but BB is brittle
  3. CBoth AA and BB are ductile
  4. DBoth AA and BB are brittle

Correct answer

B. AA is ductile but BB is brittle

Step-by-step solution

According to stress-strain curve, we see that for same value of applied stress, strain produced is more in material BB than in material AA in linear region. Therefore, AA is ductile but BB is brittle. In ductile materials, yield point exists whereas in brittle material failure occurs without yielding. AA has yield point hence it is ductile. BB doesn't have yield point hence BB is brittle.
