Therefore, the following reaction will occur KBr K ⁺+ Br ⁻2 Br ⁻+ Cl ₂ 2 Cl ⁻+ Br ₂ Thus, Br ⁻ ions are oxidised to Br ₂ by Cl ₂ , which itself is reduced to Cl ⁻ ions.
